Jiyu Kumite Clinic

Greg will again teach his Jiyu Kumite Clinic at Garden grove Dojo this winter. Greg has taught this seminar at many locations across the United States. Greg will follow the same format that was used to prepare the US Team that fought and experienced great success in Israel last year.

The clinic will focus on basic fighting drills and strategies. It will provide an opportunity to polish the pre-fight mentality and confidence building skills needed to further develop your karate training, as well as a foundation in building drills.

The clinic will also give participating students a taste of what the US Team experienced in their preparation for international competition. This clinic will be strenuous and students should anticipate a very challenging workout. This class will follow the training regimen that Greg developed for the US Team. Anyone interested in fighting or competing at a higher level should attend this session, as well as those looking for a demanding practice in general.

This will be an excellent opportunity for those preparing for a Dan Test or Nisei Week to polish their fighting ability. This class is highly recommended for those interested in fighting in future team competitions such as Canada in August 2012.

This clinic is open to all black belts and brown belts (white belts will need permission from one of the seniors listed below). Knuckle protectors and mouth guards are recommended.

Traveling students may also feel free to stay at Garden Grove Dojo overnight.

 $25 donation is appreciated from all participating students.

KYU (BELT) GRADING

Saturday,  May 14, 2011

All Members Registration:   9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

 All Members Grading:   10:00 a.m. to end.

   Adults and Kids will grade together.

There will be a pizza party after grading!!

 

The gradings are held twice each year (Spring and Fall) and your annual membership fee covers the cost. Understand, this event is not a contest or an award ceremony, but a tool to enhance the study of Karate-Do. Students should prepare well and use grading and ranking to help motivate their daily training. Grading provides feedback on areas of strengths as well as weaknesses. We feel that all members will benefit by participating and should make every effort to attend.

Kata Clinic

-- Featuring 3 SKA 5th Dan Instructors --

Shotokan of Garden Grove will host a Kata Clinic open to all SKA members age 15 and over.  A general knowledge of all Kata in a session is required to attend that specific session.  Each series will present detailed instruction as well as repetition.  Hopefully, those attending will gain beneficial knowledge to enhance their training and testing in the year(s) to come.

Session I   8:30 am  to 10:45 am

Session II   Noon  to  2:15 pm

 Instructor:  Mr. DePree

  Bassai and Kwanku

Session III   3:30 pm  to  5:45 pm

·      Arriving at the beginning of each session is requested but completing each is optional.

·      Proceeds go to Garden Grove Shotokan upgrades and Shotokan Ohshima Dojo.

First Practice will begin at 7PM on the beach south of the Belmont Shore Pier.

First & last practice on the beach at Belmont Shore Pier.
All other practices at Cal State Long Beach.
